Psalm: 87
Iconography: The psalmist is drowning beneath the waves, surrounded by four fish..I am counted among those that descend into the deeps:.. you have covered me in all your floods… Your angers have passed upon me: and your terrors have troubled me. They have surrounded me like water all the day. He raises his hands up to Christ. I stretched out my hands to you. A trefoil leaf sprouts from his mouth, passing from the sea to the heavenly sphere. Psalms 18 and 27 also use a tree branch to symbolise regeneration or new birth. Christ, flanked by two other figures, leans over to listen. Bend your ears to my prayer.
