Psalm: 55
Iconography: A violent aggressor kicks and hits a humbly kneeling tonsured man who points to God for mercy: Have mercy on me god because man has trampled me underfoot. The choice of a monk, not mentioned in the text, indicates he is displaying the monastic virtue of humility in adversity, prescribed by the Rule of St Benedict (Rule, chapter vii).
