THE ENTRY INTO JERUSALEM
John 12:13; Luke 19:35-36

Christ enters Jerusalem on an ass. John 12:13 mentions the crowd greeting him with palm leaves while Luke 19:35-36 mentions strewing garments in his path. A young man is in the tree gathering palm branches.

The crowd gathered at the gate of Jerusalem are all young men, a characteristic of Anglo-Saxon and Carolingian representations. The twelve apostles follow behind.
